There’s a National Zucchini Bread Day, National Cream Puff Day, and National Vinegar Day, just to name three of the ever-burgeoning list of National Food Days– so I say – why not give a shout out to your gastro-intestinal tract and celebrate National Farting Day with one of my favourite healthy foods – pulses, aka beans, chickpeas, lentils and split peas.
Your heart is doing a happy dance every time you eat a pulse. If the only reason you aren’t eating pulses is because of the tooting effect, I say celebrate the toot! Check out Tracy Moore and I on Cityline talking about the power of pulses.
March 1 is National Farting Day aka – eat more Pulses Day. It is my personal quest to encourage you to include these heart healthy GI loving foods into your eating style.
I have loads of recipes on my website for you to try: Spicy Red Lentil Soup, Red Lentil Waffles, South of the Border Roll ups, Wheatberry and Lentil Salad, Black Bean Chipotle Chili, or Mixed Bean Salad. to name six. There are more.
My newest cookbook Peace, Love and Fibre: over 100 fibre-rich recipes for the whole family will be in bookstores starting on May 7 is chock full of recipes using pulses as well as vegetables, fruits, flaxseed, and whole grains. If it’s a fibre rich food, it’s in my cookbook.
To celebrate National Farting Day, I’ll be giving away a signed copy of Peace, Love and Fibre to one of my followers. Just tag me on March 1 on either my Instagram page or my Facebook Fan page (search @mairlyn.smith) or Twitter page using #peaceloveandfibre and tell me your favourite recipe using a pulse is: beans, chickpeas, lentils or split peas.
I’ll randomly choose a name from the tweets, posts and comments on March 13 on my Facebook Live show (search @mairlyn.smith on Facebook to find me) at 8:00 EST.
I’ll be posting recipes and tips on fibre and pulses on Friday, March 1 on Twitter and on my Instagram page as well as Instastory.
Here’s to heart health #NationalFartingDay and having more #peaceloveandfibre in your life.
Hello Marlyn
I find this disappointingly crass.
Brenda
My cookbook Healthy Starts Here has those types of recipes for you.
Peace, love and fibre,
Mairlyn
Hi Brenda,
Sorry to offend you.
Peace, love and fibre,
Mairlyn
I m looking for recipes for soups with beans and healthy vegetables plus meals for company
I don’t cook with hot spices as it’s not tolerated but love herbs and some spices . Love your segments on cityline. Look forward to seeing you Marilyn
Hi Mairlyn,
I am so sorry you will not be doing “My Left Frypan” anymore. I looked forward to watching you each week, as well as reviewing previous episodes. Your humour, laughter and of course knowledge of preparing food was contagious. I will certainly miss you, it was like watching an old friend. I hope everything will work out for you.
Truly wishing you Peace, Love and Fibre.
Bonnie
I do try to catch you on city line, but it is not the same.
Bless your heart, Bonnie.
It was sad to say good bye, but who knows what will happen next, I’m hoping something new comes along.
Thanks for being a fan and a supporter.
Peace, love and fibre,
Mairlyn
